Usmanova Emma Radikovna: scientist, archaeologist, innovator


Speaking about the International Day of Women in Science, one cannot fail to mention the famous scientist, archaeologist of the Karaganda University named after E. A. Buketov — Usmanova Emma Radikovna, who from 1985 to the present has been fruitfully working as a research fellow at the Saryarka Archaeological Institute. The scientist's scientific interests include: rituals and ceremonies of the Bronze Age, the costume of the ancient population of the Eurasian steppe, cult and burial complexes of the Golden Horde period, etc. She is the author and co-author of 150 scientific articles and 6 monographs. Participant of many research projects and international programs, constantly improving professionally and scientifically: internships at the Carnegie Museum (Pittsburgh, USA, 2004), in Oxford (UK, 2004), participant in training on conservation and museology (Hiroshima, Japan, 2005), the only representative from the CIS countries in the program «Preservation of Cultural Heritage» (USA, 2009), participant in the project «Pastoralism and domestication of the horse in the Asian steppe in prehistoric times» (University of Exeter, UK), curator of the international project on the study of DNA of the ancient population of the Bronze Age (Copenhagen University, Natural History Museum of Denmark, Center for Biogenetics (Denmark), Kon-Tiki Museum (Norway)). Permanent participant of international Eurasian archaeological congresses and conferences of the European Archaeological Association (FICEA Izmir, 2007; EAA Istanbul, 2014; Vilnius, 2016; Maastricht, 2017; Barcelona, 2018, Rome 2024). Emma Radikovna has extensive experience in museology: she is one of the authors of the exposition of the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of the KarSU named after E. A. Buketov, the author of the expositions of the Zhezkazgan Historical and Archaeological Museum, the Sulaiman-Too Museum-Reserve (Osh, Kyrgyzstan), the Ulytau Museum Reserve. For active work in the field of museum activities in 2015, she was awarded the badge of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan «Honored Worker of Culture». In 2016, she became a member of the Kazakhstan National World Heritage Committee under the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO. Laureate of the Ch. Ch. Valikhanov for the best scientific research in the field of humanities (2020). Winner of the International Scopus Awards as the best researcher (2023). Emma Radikovna works with great dedication, creatively generates new ideas and forms of work. Today, the scientist has worldwide recognition in the scientific community and has one of the highest h-index indicators, which is 15 (Scopus database).
